Vanderbilt Builds Sober Dorms on Campus
Vanderbilt Recovery Housing began in 2014. Vanderbilt has a tiered recovery housing system with one anonymous dorm (for students with a minimum of six months recovery) and a second tier that has floors within other dorms anonymously designated specifically for students who have been in recovery for 90 days. Students interested in residing in the sober dorms have a minimum of six months sobriety (90 days for the sober floors), be active in a recovery program and agree to all Recovery Housing requirements. Relapses while in recovery housing are assessed and managed on a case by case basis They are provided with individual mentorship, accountability and above all discretion. VRH has one full-time Program Coordinator, one graduate assistant and one Vanderbilt Recovery Services graduate student facilitator on staff. In addition to the sober living spaces, Vanderbilt has a lounge on campus with 24 hour availability to students in recovery.
Vanderbilt Recovery Services offers two biweekly meetings on campus. A support group for friends and family is available too. Any Vanderbilt student can attend meetings, programming and events as long as they are sober. Vanderbilt Recovery Services offers both social and service oriented events. This grants the program a great deal of exposure to the rest of campus and to the Nashville community.
Vanderbilt Center for Wellness Vanderbilt University’s Collegiate Recovery Program was founded in 2007. Vanderbilt Recovery Services is a part of the Office of Wellness Programs & Alcohol Education which falls under the Dean of Students office.
